Representative to the PSHA Executive Board
What
are the responsibilities of the Student Representative?
The Student Representative is expected to advocate on behalf of
students in communication disorders (speech-language pathology, audiology,
education of the hearing impaired) personnel preparation programs in
Pennsylvania, and provide input and feedback to the EB regarding PSHA
initiatives, policies, and activities.
The Student Representative will:

Attend quarterly EB meetings;Participate in EB
online activities (except voting) |

Conduct a town meeting for students at
convention, or develop and implement other means of engaging and
soliciting input from students across the Commonwealth |

Provide input to program planning committee re:
students’ needs/preferences on speakers, topics, social events (and
post-convention debrief) |
 |
Provide quarterly written reports |
 |
Write a column for the Keystater (“The Student
Voice”) |
What is the term of
service?
The Student Representative shall serve a one-year term, July 1 –
June 30. At the will of the
EB, the Student Representative may be reappointed to multiple terms, as
long as s/he remains a fulltime student and meets other qualifications.
Who is eligible to become
the Student Representative?
To be considered for the Student Representative position, one must be
a fulltime student in good standing in a personnel preparation program in
Pennsylvania, who is in progress for the entry level academic degree for
professional level certification candidacy in his/her area of
communication disorders. This
means a Bachelor’s degree for Educators of the Hearing Impaired, a
Master’s degree for speech-language pathologists, and (at present) a
Master’s degree or doctoral degree in Audiology.
Nominees for this position must be student members of PSHA.

A reference from a faculty member in the major
department, attesting that s/he is a fulltime student in good

or club (e.g. NSSLHA; CEC) in which s/he is a member. |

How will the Student
Representative be selected?
No more than one candidate can be nominated from a program,
although institutions offering multiple programs can nominate a candidate
from each program. Nominations
and documentation as outlined above shall be submitted to the President by
May 15th..
EB members designated by the President shall select and the
President shall appoint the Student Representative by June
15th for
the term beginning July 1st.
What supports are
available to the Student Representative?
The Student Representative will have a small budget to
enable him/her to make on-site visits to other campuses and meet with
students at those Institutions, and engage in other approved activities.
Expenses involved in travel to EB will be reimbursed in accordance
with Association guidelines. Mentoring is available to the Student Representative from the
Past President, who will have primary responsibility in this regard.
