Introducing Constituent Liaisons

PSHA has an exciting new advocacy initiative to increase our efficacy with legislators and we would like to invite you to join!  We are looking for current PSHA members to volunteer to serve as liaisons to their local political representatives.

Right now, when there is a policy or legislative issue, we rely on the following methods:
1) A broad call to action via social media and email to members to contact their representatives.
2) Letters written from the PSHA president and VP of Government Relations
3) Meetings with legislators and board members, committee members as needed and during Hill Day.

This new initiative will add a 4th tool to our kit: constituent-driven, relationship-based advocacy with legislators.

Legislators have been very open to meeting with us and hearing our concerns, but we know that they also really want to hear directly from their own constituents.

Here is how it would work:  When there is a legislative or policy issue, you agree to write a letter, call, or, in certain circumstances, meet with your local elected representative. PSHA provides support that could look like scripts, background information on the issue or written materials to share.  Hopefully, over time, each liaison will develop a relationship with their legislator(s) and staff to allow for increased collaboration.  This way, when something urgent comes up, (like EI),  or when we want to educate our legislators (medicaid, school workloads), we will have the relationships already in place to get our message across effectively.
