Course Abstract

Today’s clinicians are responsible for regulatory compliance and billing of the services while assuring quality care. This session takes the clinician through the expectations of quality measurement, regulatory compliance and payment models paired with professional services and evidenced based practice. Using an acronym for TREATMENT, INTERPROFESSIONAL PRACTICE, MINDFULNESS AND EVIDENCE paired with the OPPORTUNITY the clinician is shown how to assure all facets of practice are addressed. The seasoned SLP needs to not only understand the expectations of current practice but must also master the maze of payment models and the use of evidence-based practices. This session explores the importance of keeping abreast of the clinical evidence that continues to emerge and practical understanding of the compliance requirements in different practice settings. These and the complexities of the many payment models are demands on today’s professionals who strive to advance their respective practices. Thinking strategically and planning for the patient’s functional outcome are integral to quality care. Addressing these alone will not assure regulatory compliance or payment for professional services rendered. Today’s clinical documentation is expected to succinctly support evidence-based practice and patient outcomes. Very soon we will also need to comply with the requirements of interoperable electronic health records. Private insurance, government quality measurements and payment models are provided to establish an understanding of current practice expectations. Essential components of clinical documentation to meet payer requirements and the most recent health information technology requirements for the smallest of providers are shared.
